Using a Small Business Credit Card
To Earn Free Business Travel

If your business involves travel, the best card for you may be a card that awards you in frequent flyer miles or allows you to accumulate points that can be redeemed towards free travel.

The frequent flyer miles you accumulate on your business expenditures can be leveraged to save a lot of cash if you use them to upgrade a coach ticket to business or first class. These miles can also be extremely useful if your business entails unanticipated travel, since late bookings are often at exorbitant rates. Your accumulated miles might help you avoid this high cost; you will often be able to book a last-minute ticket using your miles. Also, some routes are more expensive than others, and accumulated miles can save the day here as well.

Some small business cards, such as American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles® or Citibusiness®/AAdvantage® Mastercard® award you exclusively in travel-related benefits. Many of these cards also award you double miles on certain purchases, such as those made in home improvement and hardware stores, supermarkets, and gas stations. Look for cards that give you the greatest flexibility when it comes to redeeming the miles. The more airlines you can redeem the miles with, the greater flexibility you will have when it comes to booking your flight.
