Credit Cards Offer More than Just Convenience

If you are like many consumers, you are probably thinking about the best way to pay for products and services now that many financial aspects of your life may have changed over the past couple of months. On one side you have heard that paying by cash or debit cards is the way to go, and on the other you may have heard that using a credit card to establish a long credit history is essential. The fact of the matter is that while using cash in some places on purchase are good, using credit cards can give you additional benefits and protection on many products and services that would be lacking when paid for any other way.

In a video titled "Smart Uses for Credit Cards", Bankrate.com gives consumers a breakdown of when the best times are to use credit cards instead of cash. The benefits and times to use your card highlighted and discussed in this video include protection on major purchases, extended warranty plans, budgeting data and tools, making payments online safer, and most importantly building your credit score.

The fact of the matter is that there are many times that cash will be the better solution than credit cards and vice versa. However, consumers need to protect themselves at all times and credit cards are a great way to do this.

  1. Thanks for the perspective. With all the demonizing of credit cards, it can become hard to remember why a consumer would use a credit card in
    the first place.

I am increasingly becoming suspicious of all the regulation. Even though many people are defaulting, these people knew that they were borrowing more than they could afford. How can the government regulate impulse buying? With or without credit card regulation, consumers can still overextend themselves at anytime with a credit card.
