Don’t Wait for the Credit CARD Act to Take Effect
| September 25, 2009 |
As anyone can tell you, so far this year the way people perceive credit cards and banks has been change completely. What many people thought of as a thing that would not affect them has quickly been implemented on them over night. The thing that aggravate people most it seems is that nothing will be done for a few more months when most the CARD Act takes affect. So is there anything that people can do now, or is this simply a harsh version of the waiting game?
According to an article on Bankrate.com entitled "Financial meltdown: Credit Cards", there are many things that can be done to help ensure that you are in the best position possible when banks are forced to follow new lending practices. Some of the things you will find in this article include paying down balances, in which Bankrate.com even supplies a "Pay-Down Calculator". Other thing that credit cardholders can do is to know any loopholes that may be associated with your credit card agreement, such as time periods before interest rates can take effect. Some simple things that you can do to put yourself in a good position is to read your mail, and always review your credit limit to see if it has changed and to make sure you don’t go above that amount.
As with any credit card you also have the ability to opt-out of your credit agreement. In some cases this is the only thing that you can do, but always remember to consider all of your options and any effects this may have on your credit score.
