An agency that collects information about consumers' borrowing and bill-paying behaviors from a number of sources, including credit card companies, banks and retailers. The agency then sells this information to lenders, often in the form of credit reports and scores. The three major credit bureaus in the U.S. are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.
