Puzzled by credit card jargon? Browse the CreditCardGuide.com glossary for the definitions of common and confusing credit card terms.

Debit card

A card issued by a bank or financial institution that allows you to make payments or withdraw cash by electronically accessing one or more of your accounts with that financial institution. Unlike a credit card, which allows you to postpone payment until the statement comes due, the amount of a transaction made with a debit card is taken from your account almost immediately. Debit cards also have less purchase protection than credit cards.
