Preapproval

Getting authorization to borrow a certain amount of money before you actually make a purchase. Also refers a bank's unsolicited offer of a credit card based on your credit profile. The CARD Act of 2009 banned card companies from sending prescreened offers to anyone under the age of 21. However, a preapproved card offer does not guarantee you will be approved for the card once you apply.
